Eight holy rivers – Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswathi, Sarayu, Godavari, Narmada, Tungabadra and Cauvery performed penance in this holy soil on Lord to get them cleansed of the sins set on them. Lord Adhi Kesava Perumal granted darshan to them with Maragathavalli Thayar and blessed them according to the sthala purana of the place. Having been relieved of their sins, the rivers, with their ardent desire to worship Perumal for ever in this place, are here as 8 separate wells. | | |
